Date Of Birth: February 24, 1919
Date Of Death: June 22, 2012

At 6:15 P.M., June 22, 2012 Dr. Edmund Carl Kornfeld completed his long journey through this world. He went home to be with his Heavenly Father, and to
be reunited with his beloved wife, Virginia.
Ed Kornfeld could certainly say with the Apostle Paul, “for me to live is Christ”. He lived every day of his life as a tribute to his Lord and his Savior. His
faith in Jesus Christ was the scaffolding upon which his entire life hung.
In 1945 Ed married his life long love, Virginia Heinz. She was the only girlfriend he ever had
Upon graduation from Harvard, Ed and Virginia packed all their belongings into a couple of suitcases and took the train to Indianapolis, IN. where Ed had
accepted a position with Eli Lilly Co. Ed worked as an Organic Chemist for Lilly’s his entire career.
The very first thing Ed and Virginia did upon their arrival in Indianapolis was to find a church they could become a part of. They found Hope Church, which
eventually beget Faith Missionary Church. Many of the members of the young Hope Church were young people like Ed and Virginia, just starting out in their adult lives.
Through the coming years, these friends shared triumphs and tragedies, laughter and bitter tears. Many of these friendships endure to this day.
There was always a parade of people tromping through Ed and Virginia’s house. In addition to raising 7 children, there were foster children, missionary families, Vietnamese immigrants, and an exchange student. The doors were always open. There was always room for another place at the table.
Throughout his life Ed strove to be good, generous, and kind to everyone. He set an example of faithfulness to friends, family, and, most of all, God. To his
dying breath his refrain was, “In Jesus name, Amen”.
Ed is survived by his brother George Kornfeld, his 7 children, 17 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren.
A celebration of Ed’s life will be held Friday, June 29th, 1:00 P.M. at Faith Missionary Church, 9125 N. College Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46240. Viewing to begin
at 10:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, feel free to make a contribution to Faith Missionary Church or Young Life 418 E. 34th St., Indianapolis, IN.ve..

During my 30 years in chemical research at Lilly there were some scientists who were outstanding both in our science and as men. Ed was a leader in this group. One never had reason to question his integrity and he was always available to mentor young scientists. He stood among a small group of peerless scientists. Indeed, he was a noble man and will be sorely missed. May the painful memories of your loss soon evaporate and leave only marvelous memories of this marbelous man. May God bless and keep you and cause His face to shine upon you.

I am very sorry to hear about EdGÇÖs passing, but rejoice with you that he has now joined his beloved wife and his Lord Jesus in heaven. I have enjoyed my friendship with Ed over the years since 1989 as a fellow organic chemist who also worked at Lilly. Though our careers at Lilly did not overlap, we became good friends because of our love of chemistry and more importantly of our common faith in Jesus Christ, our Lord. I cherish my fond memories of my visits with Ed in the years past. May the Lord be glorified in EdGÇÖs death as He was in his life.

We apologize for this late tribute to Ed. We have the highest regard for your father who was an example of a deeply committed Christian. Our family will never forget Ed and Virginia who invited us to live in their home, along with our five children, rent free, an entire year while they lived in England. This is one example of their lifetime of generosity and kindness. His commitment to his family was very evident. When we visited Ed later on he was always kind and interested in what we were doing. He will be missed by many people but we are thankful he is with Jesus and Virginia again and will certainly have many crowns for being so faithful to God.
